Central Galeria is pleased to present The Dance of the Headless Body by Dora Smék. In her first solo show at the gallery, the artist undertakes an investigation of the body in situations of opposition, movement, tension and flow. Addressing the unconscious and sexuality, his works reveal a fragmented body: fingers, arms, joints and bones are used as molds in the casting of sculptures in iron, bronze and a13luminum.
Coming from dance, Dora evokes elements from this universe to guide possible narratives. Veronica Stigger, invited to write the text for the exhibition, observes that her work “is based on a tension between limit and overflow, containment and expansion. As in a pair where the dancers face each other instead of dancing together, the tables and tubes seem to want to contain the body, which, in turn, seeks to escape the limits imposed on it.”
Psychophysical Symmetrics
Psychophysical Symmetrics is a series of sculptures in progress freely inspired by the Rorschach psychological test boards, in which a series of boards with ink stains are presented to the patient who interprets the abstractimages associating them with recognizable shapes from their personal imaginary. Although controversial, thetest that seeks to trace a psychological profile of the patient is part of the general culture, commonly associated with crisis situations. The series in process is based on the 10 most used boards in the test. The sculpture with three-dimensional volume can be supported on different surfaces as well as hung on the wall.
